It’s God’s desire for his Kingdom to be represented by “a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language.” (Revelation 7:9-10) This influences how we see the world and the people around us. It is also why Jesus gives his followers the command to “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 28:19)
When a church understands God’s desire and seeks to fulfill his command, its radius of influence expands and includes local, regional and global engagement. Jesus gave this promise, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8) Our lives, and the local church of which we are a part, can make a difference right where we are, in places nearby, in far-away places and even in hard places.
